Day 12

After Day 12 I requested that we always shoot in Italian restaurants, if only for the delicious caprese salad compliments of the very generous restaurant owners. Black and Sho are now revising the narrative from behind-the-scenes-sketch-show to behind-the-scenes-delicious-food-show: Michael and Michael Have Lunch.

Memorial Day

Posted by Michael Ian Black Monday, May 25th, 2009

We're off from work today to celebrate Memorial Day, which I am doing in my traditional manner: grilling raccoon. A lot of people say raccoon is gamy, but my guess is they're saying that, they just didn't use enough marinade. You've got to really soak those little guys overnight, because like all wild animals, they can be a little tough and yes, gamy. Here's my raccoon marinade recipe:

1 cup lime juice
1 cup soy sauce
1/2 tablespoon Kosher salt
2 heads garlic
1/2 gallon Makers Mark scotch

Warning: be careful when you first put that coon on the grill as the scotch has a tendency to flare up. I've singed off my eyebrows more than once because I wasn't paying attention.

Best parts of the raccoon: thigh, breast, hindquarters, loin. For those of you unfamiliar with butcher terms, the loin is in the leg. Also, hold onto the pelts as they can be traded with the Canadians for blankets and trinkets.

MMHI Week Two Postmortem

Posted by Michael Showalter Saturday, May 23rd, 2009

Week Two: Postmortem

–Jim Biederman lost his "goofy dad" panda cap. If anyone finds – please return to Jim. He's bummed.
–Showalter has strange lump on side of face (probable bug bite/inconclusive/might just be bloated)
–Marla beaned Mike Black in eyeball with small toy football. (Waiting on eye doc's report.)
–Kumail in North Carolina (set seemed much lighter without him. Make note: everyone should encourage him to take more trips.)
–"Night Lunch" a big hit (strange meat went over well. Seemed like beef. No one sure.)
–Reminder to Locations: never shoot in Lower East Side again. (Adendum: shoot in LES again if we need locations with human excrement all over the side walk.)
–Casting memo: sometimes actors who play drug dealers/drug addicts really ARE drug dealers/drug addicts.
–Bugles/brass instrument shaped corn chips are good in small doses (large doses increases risk of massive heart attack.)

Me vs. Regular People

Posted by Michael Ian Black Thursday, May 21st, 2009

My compliments to Stephie Grob for posting so many terrific photos from the set of "MMHI." If I were somebody who watched television, I would definitely check out the show based purely on the photographic evidence of excellence. Because I do not watch television, however, I will most likely stick with great works of Russian literature from the 19th and 20th centuries.

That probably sounds like I'm bragging. Like, "Oh Michael Ian Black thinks he's go great because he has a doctorate in Russian literature." No, that's not what I'm saying at all. I'm just saying that because of my extensive background in studying the great Russian literary masters of the 19th and 20th centuries, I don't enjoy watching television as much as "regular people."

Which is NOT a put-down of people who aren't as smart as me. It' s just that we have different interests. Regular people watch TV whereas I prefer doing in depth literary criticism of books such as Gogol's "Dead Souls" and Lermontov's "A Hero For Our Times." One activity is not better than the other. They're just different, as different as Pushkin and Tolstoy.

Which is just a roundabout way of saying I hope you enjoy the part on our show where we kill bunnies.
